Mission and Volunteer Opportunities

There are many opportunities to give of yourself in mission and in volunteering. Those opportunities can be found under the Mission/Volunteer link.

Bible and book studies

• Wednesday With Friends Dinner begins at 5:15, followed at 6:00 with various musical activities and/or spiritual formation events concerned with changing lives, transforming the community and renewing the church. There will be something for everyone, so bring the whole family.
• Women's Bible Study meets every Friday morning from 10-11:30 at the church. (600 State st, Salem, Oregon)
• Discipleship I is a 34 week intensive Bible study for those interested in learning more about this amazing book. It is being offered at two different times this year, Tuesday evenings from 6:00-8:30pm or THursday mornings from 10:00-12:30pm. • Living the Questions is a progressive alternative for Christian invitation, initiation and spiritual formation. The class is a 12-week small group study beginning September 18th from 3:30-5:30pm. Sunday Morning Classes

• Adult Bible Study emphasized relating Biblical teachings to everyday living. It meets weekly Sunday mornings at 8:30 or 9:45 in room 222.
• Adult Forum discusses many social issues of concern to Christians. It meets Sunday mornings at 9:45am in the Carrier Room.
• Family Matters discusses issues of interest to Christian families, spouses and parents. It meets Sunday mornings at 9:45am in basement room B8.
• Bridges/Wednesday Fun Nite is designed for adults and high schoolers of all ability levels. It meets Sunday mornings at 9:45am and Wednesday evenings at 6:00pm in room 120. The focus is to bridge relationships, break down barriers, and to provide a safe meeting place for inclusive interaction. We welcome visitors and all friends.

Retreats

• All Church Retreat happens in the fall at Camp Magruder and is open to anyone in the church who wants to attend. This is a family-friendly event for growing in fellowship with your church family and faith through the amazing presence of God. This retreat is scheduled for October 21-23, 2005.
• Quilting Retreats happen throughout the year both at the church and at various other locations. This is an informal group of women and men who like to get together to work on projects. Any quilter, beginner through expert, would be welcomed. You need to provide your own sewing machine. You are encouraged to bring your own project, though some ongoing group projects may also be available.
• Women's Retreat takes place at Camp Magruder on the beautiful Oregon Coast. It is open to all interested women. The retreat will happen on February 10-12, 2006.
• Men's Retreat is a conference-wide event, so it is a great place to connect with other men from Oregon and Idaho. It is sponsored by the United Methodist Men and usually takes place in the fall.
• Church Camps through the United Methodist Church happen all year long all over Oregon and Idaho. To find out what camps are happening that you might be interested in, go to www.gocamping.org to find out more.

Just for Women!

• Women's Retreat takes place at Camp Magruder on the beautiful Oregon Coast. It is open to all interested women. The retreat will happen on February 10-12, 2006.
• United Methodist Women is a community of women who study to grow in their faith and give of themselves through missions. The whole body meets four times a year, with several smaller circles meeting monthly or bi-weekly.
• Mia Adjali Circle meets the second Wednesday of the month at 7:00pm at a member's home. For more information, contact the church office via or phone at 503-364-6709.
• Erbele Circle meets the 2nd Monday of the month at the church (600 State St, Salem, Oregon) from noon-2pm.
• Mary Martha Prayer Circle meets the third Friday of the month at the church (600 State St, Salem, Oregon) from 7-9pm.
• Susannah Wesley Circle is a mom's group that meets every other Wednesday from 3:00-5:00 at the church. (600 State St, Salem, Oregon) Contact the church office via or phone at 503-364-6709 for more information.
• Bible Study meets every Friday morning from 10-11:30 at the church. (600 State St, Salem, Oregon)

Just for Men!

• Men's Retreat is a conference-wide event, so it is a great place to connect with other menfrom Oregon and Idaho. It is sponsored by the United Methodist Men and usually takes place in the fall.
• United Methodist Men meet for breakfast on the third Saturday of every month at the church.

Music

• Alleluia Choir (High school through adult)
• Rehearsals are Wednesdays, 6:30-7:30 in the Choir Room (#214) beginning September 14th.
• Sings weekly (except the third Sunday of each month) at the 8:30 service
• Sunday morning practice is from 8:00-8:25.
• This choir sings music of all types.
• Chancel Choir (High school through adult)
• Rehearsals are Wednesdays, 7:30-9:00 in the Choir Room (#214) beginning September 14th.
• Sings weekly (except the third Sunday of each month) at the 11:00 service
• Sunday morning practice is from 10:00-10:45am.
• This choir sings music of many styles.
• Masterworks Chorale (High school through adult)
• Reahearsals are Wednesdays, 7:00-8:00 in the Sanctuary for seven weeks prior to presentation.
• Presentations are twice yearly at the 11:00 service on Sunday morning. They occur around the Christmas and Easter seasons.
• This year's Christmas time "A Baroque Chrstmas" is Dec. 11th, 2005 at the 11:00 worship service.
• Rehearsals begin October 19th with a rehearsal retreat on Saturday, October 29th from 10:00-3:00.
• This year's Easter season presentation is April 23, 2006 at the 11:00 service.
• Rehearsals begin March 8th with a rehearsal retreat on March 18th.
• The Collection Plates is a specialty group of seven men who share music of all styles for worship and in concert.
• Archangel Bells (High school through adult)
• Rehearsals are Tuesday evening, 5:30-6:30 in the Sanctuary beginning September 13th.
• This group plays at the 8:30 or 11:00 service on the third Sunday of the month.
• Archangel Bells is for beginning and more experienced players. Specific training is available for beginning players.
• Angelus Dei Bells (High school through adult)
• Rehearsals are Tuesday evenings, 7:15-8:45 in the Sanctuary beginning September 7th.
• This group plays at both the 8:30 and 11:00 services on the third Sunday each month and Christmas Eve.
• Angelus Dei is for players with musical and bell playing experience. Please contact for more information about this group.
